Garden Cafe, Marriott – A Place of Fevered Foodie Pilgrimage

I’ve had breakfast buffets at The Marriott’s Garden Cafe a couple of times before. Both times I didn’t shell out a single dime. Why? Because a person who belongs socio-economically in the middle-class does not simply go to a Marriott Hotel to eat cereals. But I have recently sampled their dinner buffet as Cebu’s Zomato team invited me to a bloggers-only dinner at the Garden Cafe. Yes. For free!!!

The only irritating thing about eating at a buffet is when you pick all the food that looks good and before you know it, you’re full. Below are my top 3 dishes to make a beeline for so you can avoid wishing you have a bottomless pit of a stomach.

Garden Cafe Marriot Cebu
Lechon Pasta

The Lechon Pasta is one of the fantastic dishes created by sous chef Nestor Alcoseba. His innovative masterpieces are inspired by Cebuano and Pinoy recipes with a touch of your worldwide favorites. Chef Nestor’s Lechon Pasta is a brilliant dish. The fusion of your Italian archetypal meal and Cebu’s pride, the roasted pig. One serving is good for 2 or 3 people. Order one and share it with friends. I mean, you can always get another one if it’s too good not to get seconds.

Head to the grill station and tell their accommodating¬†staff you’d like a couple of their pork belly. Trust me, they roast it to perfection.

Another stop to go to is their sisig station.¬†Choose among chicken, pork, squid or, for our vegetarian friends, tofu. You can even request to combine the aforementioned ingredients.¬†I would prefer the squid sisig over anything. Cooked with strong vibrant spices, it’s the Asian food the Cebuanos can brag about.

It's a standing ovation for our Cebuano Lechon Waray for tonight's #gmscocktails

Lamb, turkey and veal, are the main components of the popular Levantine¬†meat dish, shawarma. They all sound foreign to me. I had to google “veal” to know what it is. It’s a horrible meat next to those chicks being ground alive. But Chef Nestor has an alternative. The Lechon Shawarma.¬†Satisfyingly spicy without overpowering the flavor of the meat. It’s definitely a world-class meal.

Those are my top 3 favorites, but if you can manage to squeeze more food in, below are some of Garden Cafe’s dishes worthy of that extra hour in the gym.

Salmon has to be the perfect fish any time of the day. Their salmon is evenly cooked and the flavor is extraordinary. Make sure to also get a few spoonfuls of their Lechon Belly and Roasted Pork Ribs. You can still tag your vegetarian friends along. The vegetable station has a variety of fresh greens to choose from. For dessert, get a serving of their Banana and Chocolate cr√™pe or the Mango cr√™pe. There are mini cakes available but I’m too grown-up¬†to enjoy them. I would head to where the fresh fruits are if I were you. I mean, after all those meat? Seriously?
